Creative meditation and grounding

Finding presence through a mark, a breath and an image

Stillness does not look the same for everyone. You may find it easier to pay attention while your hand moves across a page than while trying to sit perfectly motionless.

Creative meditation brings images, simple gestures and mindful attention together. It offers a way of exploring presence that can include colour, a written word or a small drawing. There is no need to empty your mind before you begin.

Let a gesture become an anchor

A line can mark a beginning. A circle can offer a place to rest your attention. A word can remind you of a quality you would like to bring into the day. Their meaning does not have to be universal or fixed.

Lucia combines guided visualisation, listening and creative expression in her approach. Grounding here means gently noticing your present experience, rather than reaching a special state or doing meditation correctly.

A small creative practice

A line, a centre and a word

Give yourself a few quiet minutes with a sheet of paper. Adapt the practice to your comfort.

  1. Draw a base

Sit comfortably, notice the support beneath your feet and draw a slow horizontal line.

  2. Mark a centre

Add a circle or dot somewhere on the page. Look at it while allowing a few ordinary breaths.

  3. Choose your word

Write a word that feels useful today: space, steadiness, kindness, courage, or something entirely your own.

The Maree Creative approach

A note from Lucia

A point on the page can be a modest beginning. The practice is not to hold yourself perfectly still, but to return with kindness when your attention moves.
